Commitment to Success

The Commitment to Success Program emphasizes education and job readiness for youth 16-21 years of age. More than a GED program, YEI offers a holistic approach to youth services, providing a dynamic learning environment that accommodates varied learning styles, skill levels, and personal circumstances.

Comprehensive Services Include:

GED Instruction and Preparation

Youth work to upgrade basic skills and prepare for the GED exams in ways that accommodate their learning styles—whether self-paced, in small groups or one-on-one with instructors or tutors. Classes and workshops are offered in subject test areas (math, science, social studies, reading comprehension and writing).

Employment Readiness Training

A critical component of all programs is basic employment readiness training. Youth prepare for entry into the job market by completing resumes and applications, honing interview skills, exploring career options and demonstrating progress toward work maturity goals.

Supervised Work Experience

Once employment readiness training is complete, youth may participate in a supervised work experience that include job shadows, worksite tours, internships and work experiences. Program staff provides support and resources to facilitate successful experiences.

Job Placement and Retention Services

YEI takes special care to help youth find jobs that fit their skills and interests. Youth work with an Employment Specialist to find and keep a job. During this time, youth might receive assistance with childcare, transportation, clothing, tools or continued education.

Computer Training

Students receive a minimum of 30 hours of computer training as an introduction to computers and word processing with the option to gain advanced skills in spreadsheets, databases, and the internet.

Life Skills

Weekly life skills classes explore topics and issues that are pertinent to students’ lives, including goal setting, diversity training, communication skills and accessing resources. These classes support the overall success of students, both personally and academically.

Service Learning Opportunities

Working alongside professional social-service workers, youth have the opportunity to make valuable contributions to the community, to gain skills vital to the workplace and to develop a deeper understanding of the needs of people within their communities.

Post Secondary Education Services

Youth interested in pursuing post secondary education options receive assistance in areas such as completing applications, applying for financial aid and scholarships, and scheduling college tours. Some youth may also be eligible for grants or scholarships that provide tuition and books.
