Opportunities
The
Youth Employment Institute welcomes the valuable contributions of
volunteers. Our volunteer opportunities take place Monday -
Friday, between the hours of 8:00 am and 6:00 pm. If you are interested
in working with YEI on a volunteer basis, please contact the Human Resources
Coordinator at 503-280-1058.
We
are recruiting for the following positions:
Volunteer Aid
Child
and Family Development Center
Goal:
To
provide teachers in the Child and Family
Development Center
with additional assistance during peak hours.
Sample
Activities: Work with teachers and aids to care for infants and
toddlers, assist with projects, go on walks, feed children meals and clean up
after activities. Infants range in age from 6 weeks to 18 months and toddlers
18 months to 3 years.
Responsibilities:
- Assures the
safety of children in care at all times
- Assists
teachers and staff in the development of age appropriate skills and
implementation of corresponding activities
- Assists with
the planning and participates in outings and field trips
- Assists with
maintaining clean, neat and orderly toy and play areas
Qualifications
Sought:
- Reliability
and patience
- Flexibility
- Ability to
work independently with minimal supervision
- Able to work
effectively in a culturally rich environment
- Standard
first-aid certification and child CPR certification desired, but not
required.
- Must pass a
criminal history background check

Education/Experience/Training:
- Minimum of
one year of experience caring for infants and/or toddlers
- Education
and training equivalent to nine college credit hours in Early Childhood
Education.
- Volunteer
orientation and on the job training provided.
Working
Conditions:
- Exposure to
communicable diseases which can encompass a variety of illnesses and infections
including tuberculosis, Hepatitis A, B, C, infectious meningitis and
HIV.
- May involve
exposure to severely traumatized and/or emotionally disturbed
adolescents and families.
Volunteer Hours: Volunteer Teacher
Aid hours are scheduled Monday-Friday between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM.
Minimum Time Commitment: Three months,
minimum of 2 hours per week.
